Open Call to Artists
Salon Des Refusés
Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park & Museum is excited to announce its annual artists call for its brand-new fall/winter exhibition gallery.
This year’s theme is “Salon des Refusés”, which asks artists to submit an artwork that was rejected from a past exhibition or project. Please include a statement telling the story of the art piece: what was it made for? and what went wrong? Statements could be inspiring testaments of artistic growth, examples of differing tastes, or even comical examples of a miscommunication. The jury will consider the artist statement and the exhibition will present the statements alongside the art in the show.
Inspired by the Salon of 1863, when the Paris Salon famously rejected the likes of Edouard Manet, Gustave Courbet, Camille Pissarro, & James McNeill Whistler, Pyramid Hill's exhibition theme seeks to give art and artists a second chance. Impressionist artists went on to draw more visitors to their alternative salons than the official academic exhibition.
As always, we’d like to introduce new artists to this region, feature local artists, and exhibit everyone, from more established to emerging artists, in tandem. Exhibition space is limited. All accepted art will be eligible to win an award.
