summer series for kids

2013 Summer Series for Kids Schedule

June 12 – An American Indian Trail

Take a walk back in time with expert Greg Harrison in an enlightening program about the native people who lived here hundreds to thousands of years ago. Kids will get to see and touch genuine artifacts, many of which were found at the park and surrounding areas. Learn what life was like for Native Americans by exploring a miniature village, using replica tools, and playing customary games.

June 19 – Zak Morgan's Music Program

Grammy nominee Zak Morgan's unique brand of children's music delivers songs and poems that inspire and tickle the funny bones of children and adults alike. Morgan has been compared to Shel Silverstein and Dr. Seuss because of his wit and child-friendly sophistication. His performance of songs and stories is fun and interactive but also gets children excited about reading and learning.

June 26 -- Drake Planetarium Traveling Galaxy Show

Under a 19-foot inflatable portable digital dome planetarium and led by an experienced instructor, children will travel through the solar system. The Native American Mythology program provides colorful outlines of figures from Native American constellation folklore such as Long Sash, the Great Bear, First Man and Woman, Spider God and many others with legends drawn from the Navajo, Shoshoni, Blackfoot, Cherokee, Tewa, Hopi and Algonquin tribes.

July 3 -- Birds of Prey

A trained education specialist from Raptor Inc will come with live birds of prey to give an informative program about these fascinating birds. The group will learn about Hawks, Owls, Falcons, Vultures and Eagles, where you might find them in the Greater Cincinnati area and the importance they play in our ecosystem.

July 10 – Drake Planetarium Lego Lab

Children will have fun while developing color, artistic and creative skills using unique mosaics. While building 4 different mosaic creations, they will use Lego pieces in different shapes, colors and sizes to spark active imaginations.

July 17 -- Magician Matthew David Stanley

Matthew David Stanley presents mind blowing magic for a result that can only be described as entertaining. He has opened for names such as Master Illusionist David Copperfield and Funnyman Gary Owen. Matthew is a seasoned professional and there is a plenty of magic for everyone in his performance.

July 24 – The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati

Using the Native American Cinderella story "The Rough Faced Girl" by Rafe Martin, children will "travel" to an Algonquin village and experience Native American culture through story, song, and interactive play.
